Play Me Some Mountain Music..... {Orlando Family Photographer}

Hi everyone! Yup, it is time for another family vacation! We have been packing and packing some more and will be heading out tomorrow for the Great Smoky Mountains! I love it! Something about the mountains makes me so at peace and inspired by nature. The fall leaves will be colorful and the air will be cooler (well, cooler than Orlando=) and I will be dearly enjoying this alone time with my family. I used to vacation as a little girl in the mountains and immediately the first things that come to mind are: hiking, white water rafting, miniature golf, Dollywood, gem mining, waterfalls, horseback riding, fishing (lots of rainbow trout), cavern tours and painting the really pretty smooth stones you can find in the little streams there. We will definitely be checking a few of these off our "to-do" list while there and of course lots of pictures to share when I return. A HUGE thank you to all my families that I have been so blessed to work with this holiday season. I can't believe that we are almost full through the end of November. Although the last month has been crazy, I still lay in bed at night (a little exhausted) thinking how lucky I am to be doing what I love and to have made such dear friends in the process. If you have not booked yet, don't worry...I will do my best to squeeze everyone in and still get all my Christmas shopping done (oh how I LOVE the Christmas season). I am "one of those" people who has their lights and tree up the week before Thanksgiving, ha! Until I return, I will leave you with some images from my latest and lovely family! I always forget how beautiful it is to photograph on the beach until those several times a year when we go. This year I had my hubby and kids in tow with promises to play in the sand with them when my session was done. It seems that no matter how many newborns I photograph, I am always amazed at how sweet and peaceful each and every one are when at rest. I never get over their squishy cheeks or cute little lips. My babies were pretty small so I had to wait awhile for the big chubby cheek phase. Little Kirk was blessed with these cheeks from the start. What a darling he was.

Good byes are so hard no matter how close or far you are going. Christy Nash and family are moving the family to Tampa soon and wanted to have a few sentimental pictures of their home and Orlando neighborhood before packing up the car. Christy is not only one of my very best friends but I have known her since college and boy do we have stories! I just keep telling myself that life is about change and my dream of growing old with all my girlfriends nearby is just not reality. Hi everyone! We just wanted to keep in touch and let you know that summer is well underway in our household.
We have completed our first summer project....an organic vegetable and flower garden (Ella's idea, I promise)!
We are going to care well for our little 4x4 garden and hope to see some sunflowers, cantaloupe, tomatoes and squash soon (yikes!). We are now onto "Sea World Camp" this week and next week off to "Camp Nana" in Melbourne (some time with my parents in Melbourne). I just loved photographing Suzanne's beautiful daughters. Just as I was thinking she deserves a lot of credit for raising four children, she tells me how much joy her daughters have brought her and how she can't imagine life without each of them. What an inspiration she is and so truly blessed (four times) to have these four little ladies. Have you ever reconnected with a friend from high school and found that they have not aged one single day? I only wish I was blessed with those genes =) Claudette is still the most beautiful and sweetest person ever and now has the most adorable kiddos. I was counting down the days to spend some time with her family (especially with the weather delays we had...) and meet her children again for the second time. As you can see, we had a great time and I certainly had to test my skills to get some good giggles. Thanks Claudette! Well if you can't tell, I am on a roll catching up on my blog. I am headed to NYC on Thursday for my birthday (don't ask how old!) to visit my sister and take some fun pictures of the big city life. I was wrapping up my last gallery before I leave and couldn't wait to post these. I just fell in LOVE with these little girls at our downtown Church Street session. They were so much fun and dressed so perfect! Enjoy and wish me luck on my trip. This weekend I had the most wonderful time doing a 2-day mini session event for TLC Pediatrics. Dr. Lacy has made it his mission to donate his time and medical expertise to "Hands Up for Haiti" and being that he is our favorite pediatrician, it made sense to partner up. A HUGE thank you to all 13 families who came out to show their support. It looks like Dr. Lacy is pretty popular and we all feel strongly about helping others. Look for a few of these pictures soon but in the mean time, I am going to show you what I have been up to the past three weeks....

Remember this guy? The one on my website with the black bear hat? Jack is all grown up now and celebrated his one year milestone in front of my camera along with his older sister Sam.

Spring has officially begun and the flowers are not the only thing in bloom! I have never seen so many babies in a short period of time but of course you won't hear me complain! I am lovin the fact that I get a baby fix almost every week lately! I also LOVE meeting the beautiful families that these babies are so lucky to have. Erin is my second mom to be involved in the Winnie Palmer Hospital Baby Event and will have her baby displayed on the walls of this fabulous hospital (and I speak from experience). I was so excited to photograph the Brewer family at one my my favorite spring locations, Mead Gardens. Kate and Brian are just the most fun loving parents to three sweet boys....loved the dog tagging along as well and the fact that as we crossed the bridge he decided to take a dive into the water. This truly is a great example of lifestyle photography at it's finest as I got to tag along as we made a loop around the grounds just before sunset. Arnold Palmer Hospital - Red Rendezvous {Orlando Child Photographer}

Yeah! Red Rendezvous has come and gone but not without leaving an impression on the hearts of all attendees. Hosted by Chris and Andrea Peters (with the support of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children) at the Orlando Museum of Art, the night was truly a night of emotion and awareness for Congenital Heart Disease. Being that the event was at the Art Museum, they arranged for a Portrait Photographer (Jacob Cordell) to paint pictures of my portraits and put on display during the evening. Jacob is amazing and as two artists, we instantly became friends. In fact, I have included his email address below should anyone want to reach out to him. Has it been 13 years already?

Isn't my niece just beautiful!! I took these pictures while in Melbourne this past weekend spending some time with my family and celebrating all the birthdays we have in February. One birthday, my niece Kylie, just really took me off guard. I mean, I knew that she was going to be 13 but I didn't really think about it too much until that day. It seems just the other day when she was born and I bought her a green velvet jumper to wear for Christmas (it was cute, I promise). Now she is all grown up with cool hair, long legs and an opinion about what she wears. One thing is for sure....she is an amazing not-so-little girl whose sweet demeanor has remained unchanged. Love you Kylie!

Launch Workshop With Stacy Larsen

First I just want to say that Stacy Larsen is an amazing mentor and photographer!! I went to Stacy's workshop in early February and met some very talented ladies and of course was able to learn from one of the greatest. She had set up some super cute photo opportunities for us on the beach and another in a more urban setting. Our models were the adorable kids of Kelleen Hite of Pure Sugar Studios (also our host for this workshop and college friend of mine). Six Days New....

I love babies, I love babies, I love babies.....did I say that I love babies! Little Khloe was only 6 days new when I had the opportunity to photograph her and her beautiful family. Not only did I get to finally meet mom, dad and her two older brothers but I also had the chance to meet grandma, grandpa and Aunt! Kim (Khloe's mother) was truly amazing and looked absolutely fabulous. Khloe slept almost the entire 4 hours I spent with her (unbelievable and a record breaker in my books!). I am so thrilled that I get to watch this family grow and especially see Khloe several times during her first year. Thank you to Kim and her entire family! She is an angel =)

Pure Sweetness!

It always amazes me when one minute I am taking maternity pictures and the next minute the mom is calling to tell me the baby is born and ready for pictures! Time flies so fast doesn't it? Thank goodness our wonderful technology allows us to capture all these moments before we turn around and our kids are off to college. Baby Audrey was pure sweetness as you can see and as all babies do, made me think more about having another. I always marvel at new parents like Aaran and Alicia who seem to be so cool, calm and collected with their first born (a natural mom for sure). I don't remember have it together like that =) Thank you so much Aaran and Alicia.....it won't be long before I will be taking her 6 month pictures! -Shelby

A Family Holiday...

What a great time to take pictures when the ENTIRE family is home for the holidays. It was especially fun to photograph the Wren family since they were my neighbors growing up in Melbourne. In fact, I actually babysat their children a few times (that makes me feel very old right now). Anyway, thank you so much to Lynne and the whole family for spending an afternoon with me over the holiday break. I truly enjoyed working with you all and a special thanks as well to the Spira's for loaning us their beautiful river home. Happy New Year to you all!

A Merry Christmas!

OK, so I am a little late with this but better late than never, right? I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! This was the first year that our family celebrated the holiday at our house. We spent the few days before the holiday in Melbourne with my family and then back to our house Christmas Eve....just in time to make cookies for Santa and sprinkle our reindeer food on the front lawn (a treat for all the neighborhood squirrels). I truly enjoyed being in our home when the kids woke up. I am pretty sure this will be the new tradition! I thought I would share a few pictures below. In a few days or so I might get around to my New Year blog =)

A Cold, Cold Day...

So us Floridians like a change from the usual heat but when it gets into the 30's, that is when we start moving our photo sessions indoors! Monday was the first really cold and windy day this winter and of course it was my day to shoot the Fenton family (Jenn Fenton being the fabulous jewelry designer). We moved our session indoors and enjoyed some warmer air and their adorable daughter Marin in her own home and going about her normal routine. This really turned out to be one of my favorite shoots because I felt it truly documented a day in Marin's life...spending time with her parents, her dog, her room, laying on the floor with the love bunny and just being an active and sometimes camera shy child. These pictures reflect more lifestyle photography and something I would like to do more of. Many times as I am wrestling my kids to the floor or giving them horsey rides around the house I think how nice it would be to document this in pictures because it certainly won't last forever....Thank you Jenn for everything and for the opportunity to work with your amazing business. Merry Christmas!

Laugh & Love...

Laugh & Love...These are the first two words that come to mind when describing the Suttles family session. I was reminded how much fun it is as an adult to be able to laugh with your siblings and parents. Joy (whom I know from my previous life in Human Resources) had contacted me a little while ago and asked if I would photograph her two brothers, their wives and her parents all together and some separately. I figured with all adults and no children involved that this would be a pretty low-key shoot but they definitely kept me laughing and were good sports climbing up on trees, etc. I thought their session truly showed the fun-loving nature of this family and ability to just be themselves in front of the camera. Thank you so much Joy for letting me spend some time with your family and share in some good laughs =)

Yes, Amanda and Finley are the not only awesome friends and (Finley) classmate to my daughter Ella, but they are the best neighbors anyone could ask for. Amanda and I have swapped children and dog duties several time before. I am not sure how I would get along without her (I just borrowed some Gatorade from her last night for my sick husband)! I love that our girls have been in the same class for two years running now....Ella was included today on our session as my first time assistant. I feel so lucky to have met the O'Donnell family! Wendy (who is also a UF Grad....Go Gators!) was so prepared for this session that you would think she is the pro! Not only did she have toys, balls, milk & a brush, she also brought the most adorable set of toddler golf clubs for her son Will. How fitting for our location at Casa Feliz set on the picturesque Winter Park golf course. A personal thank you goes out to all Trinity Lutheran School parents, students, church members, staff and many of my Simply Shelby families. The month of October was our Life In Focus Event (LIFE) to raise awareness of Congenital Heart Disease by donating to the Congenital Heart Institute (Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children). Together we raised over $600 and an invaluable amount of toys for their Child Life Program. In addition to the gift of giving, FIVE family portrait mini sessions were presented to five of our Trinity families along with a FREE 8x10 mounted print of their choice from Simply Shelby Photography. Thank you again to everyone with a very special heartfelt thanks to Darlene Sabin for helping to put this event together at Trinity, Dena Pichardo, Sheri Mosley and Sandy Atkinson of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and of course Andrea, Chris and Cayden Peters for showing me the path to helping wonderful children like Cayden. Together we really made a difference!

Dickson Azalea Park

Who new that Orlando has such a beautiful tropical park hidden in downtown. I am almost embarrassed to say I completely forgot about this location (I live less than a mile away!) until Vicki mentioned that her husband and son had decided on this location for our holiday mini session. I have photographed this family once before through Kindermusik and was really looking forward to seeing them again. Their son is a little older than mine and very excited about our adventure through Dickson Azalea Park. I must say, they make my job very easy! Well I wouldn't really consider myself a Pet Photographer so when Erica asked me to do portraits for her and her adorable 6 month old lab mix, I thought "Why Not?". I quite often have the family pet in many of my photos but I wouldn't really say they are the center of focus. I love dogs and for those of you who know me well, our family just suffered the great loss of our beloved family dog, Daisy. Daisy was a chocolate lab so I thought this photo shoot might be difficult but instead I would myself LOVING my time with Erica and Maggie and truly enjoying the opportunity to have such a wonderful and playful dog on the other side of my camera. So this was a great on-location shoot! Kara's children truly reminded me of my childhood, growing up in a family of two girls and one boy and the ever lasting chaos that goes along with having three kids. When one is smiling, the other is crying and the last is looking the opposite way of the camera or should I say making bunny ears =) I told Kara (and I often say this about many of my families I photograph) that the outtakes keep me laughing all throughout the editing process. Let's face it, kids are just funny and I would not be in this business if I truly did not enjoy it and get a huge kick out of it! I LOVE the fact that they were super spontaneous because these are the moments we remember. Any lifestyle photographer will tell you that candid child photography produces lots of great memories, laughs and one day in the future a "gag reel" on my website (ok, maybe not). Welcome to fall and of course the cutest pumpkin patch you have ever seen! Dorothy told me she wanted to take some "fall like" family pictures and maybe a few at the end with her kids in their Halloween costumes that she and her neighbor made. Little did I know they were the most adorable costumes ever! I am not much of a seamstress so I was totally amazed that someone could be so talented. Actually reminded me when I was little and my mom made me a "Raggedy Ann" costume. Anyway, these are two pumpkins I could just eat up they are so cute! "The" Kindermusik Family takes on the beach...

It was time again for my annual Lesnick holiday photo shoot and Holly decided we would try the beach this year. Holly Lesnick is the owner of Kindermusik, Grow & Sing Studios. I am sure if you follow along you have seen me blog about her many times before. Did I mention she is also super mom? Did I mention her husband is amazing as well? Well if I didn't, I will say it now and even more important, I will say she has the most adorable children, Aiden and Anna. We had so much fun at the beach and dodge some rain but ended up with a rainbow and some great family moments. I had tears in my eyes when I finished her gallery...tears of joy that I caught exactly what I set out to capture...the love and warmth that this family has and shares with the world. There is nothing a photographer loves more then a subject with creativity and imagination! I certainly hit the jackpot when Alicia (no, her name was not Holly Golightly) began telling me about her fascination with Audrey Hepburn. In fact, Alicia is have a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" baby shower as I write and will name her soon-to-come baby girl Audrey. Alicia wanted to bring her black Audrey Hepburn dress to the shoot and take "just a few pictures if we have time" she said....that was not good enough for me. My creativity juices were flowing and I thought it would be AWESOME to try to pull off some of the still photos from her favorite movie. He husband was such a sport and as you can see played the role just perfect. I put a lot of thought and time into what "look" I wanted these images to have. I am so thrilled with how these turned out and what a great story this will make for her daughter. This is a little sneak peek with more pictures (and a change of clothes) to come. Aghhh....the Crampton Family! I will start off first by saying that Brody and Colby Crampton are the most loving little subjects EVER! My morning started out with "who could give Miss Shelby the biggest hugs" and then "who can help Miss Shelby carry her stuff" and then "who can listen the best to Miss Shelby". Who could ask for more, right? Of course like all children we all were a little restless at the end of the session but I sure do feel attached to my new little friends after our session. My Little Princess Turns 4!!!

This weekend we celebrated my little angel's 4th birthday. As you can see we had a blast indulging the girls in princess mania! Finley, our next door neighbor, classmate and friend joined us along with her mom, Amanda, and our family. We started the day with breakfast surrounded by the Disney characters and then off to the Bippity Bobbity Boutique at Downtown Disney. The girls were pampered and showered with Pixie Dust. Amanda and I just cracked up the entire time watching our little Diva's smile and soak it all in. Plus we must have been the loudest and most obnoxious family there (of course)! We thought it was just fitting that both the girls picked the "Belle" princess dress (we shopped separately) and both picked the same hairstyle and pink weave to go in their hair at the boutique. It was such a special day and everyone had a great time including the men who came along for the show. Of course, I could not forget a picture of my little angel boy, Oliver, who a trooper throughout the whole day. I love, love, love my family so dearly and cannot express in words how much motherhood means to me....A big thanks to my awesome husband, Andrew, for letting all of us girls play out our princess fantasies! The title says it all.....I practiced and perfected my "run and snap" skills with Grace and Matthew. Don't let the still photos below fool you, these two munchkins were by far my most active toddlers. Mom (Heidi) and I sweat it out chasing after them at Disney's Boardwalk and trying to keep up with a stroller full of photo shoot essentials. As I was editing these photos I had a good laugh and emailed Heidi that this gallery is as "Candid" as them come. As a mom of two toddlers myself, I almost prefer this style of pictures for my children as this is truly how I will always remember them...cute, adorable, loving and on the go!! The Arjha Family at Portofino Bay {Orlando Child Photographer}

OK, I must say that this session was by far the "dirtiest" family session I have yet to experience and by "dirty" I mean we all needed a shower as soon as we got home! Not only is this summer heat a killer but to top it off Laura and Karim, along with their two adorable kiddos (Braden and Brinley), went along with the fun and spent some playful picture time in the freshly watered grass. OK, so Laura would probably say the worst part was not picking off all the grass and dirt off their clothes but instead picking Brinley up out of the water after a harmless wipe-put (kudos to mom and dad though for letting her explore). Thank goodness for a change of clothes! I always say that my sessions are full of excitement =) Thank you Karim and Laura! Sure was worth it!!!!

Welcome to the World {Central Florida Baby Photographer}

Aghh...only 6 days old at the time of the shoot, baby Quinn slept all three hours of our session. As you can see she was a complete doll and certainly brought back lots of sweet memories of that special time with my kids. Thank you to Shoie for completely handing over her baby....I am just sorry she didn't get to go back to bed =) You may remember the maternity pictures of Shoie (mom) and her daughter Ava at the Baldwin Park location on the wicker bench surrounded by unkept landscaping. It feels like I just posted pictures of Dorothy and Steve Martin when expecting their son Jack. I can't believe here I am posting pictures now of little Jack at 3 months old! Dorothy is such a fun and awesome mom, not to mention very smart getting this cute "bear" hat for Jack's pictures. I am seriously searching for it as soon as this post goes up. Anyway, there are lots more picture to come from Dorothy and Steve since they have me booked for several more sessions to capture Jack's first year! Flowers, Flowers & More Flowers...

This next stop took place on the campus of Rollins College. I thought it might be fun to bring some flowers for Emily to play with. I was not sure how to incorporate them into the pictures when I thought of the idea but I knew it was a fail safe way to make a somewhat shy 3 year old smile! I LOVE the old look to the campus and beautiful texture to the doors and buildings. To top it off we even found a little dock by the water! Our only hiccup for this session was parking (Mandy is laughing now as she reads this). We scheduled our shoot not knowing it was the first day of summer camp (seriously must have been more than just one summer camp). Anyway, despite waiting for me to find a parking lot, Mandy and Emily look absolutely beautiful as a mom and daughter duo. Thank you so much Mandy!!!!

Lake Baldwin Lane

This photo session takes me to Baldwin Park, specifically, the grassy edge along Lake Baldwin Lane. I have driven by it a hundred times and suddenly looked at it and thought, "what a beautiful place for a session". Thank goodness for true friends like Shoie and her beautiful daughter Ava! We spent over an hour in the blazing sun taking the pictures after I ran across the street with a wicker love seat to use as a prop. I had a very specific vision with this session as you can see with the wicker seat, tall grass, flowers, water, blue sky and flowing dresses. We then changed it up a little with the pink balloons as a symbol of the new baby girl to come (Ava is already a proud big sis!). Thank you again to Shoie and Ava! I hope this exactly the surprise you were looking for =)

Destination: Celebration!!!

My next stop during this crazy month was Celebration, FL. As you can see Terri is expecting her THIRD (!!!) child and is holding off this time around on finding out the gender (keeping everyone she knows in suspense). Terri warned me ahead of time that her son Tristan has a TERRIBLE time smiling or looking natural for the camera. I often get this warning from many families regarding their children and just smile knowing that my only mission is to get a good picture and failure is not in my vocabulary. Well.......we did have a hard time (harder than I thought and I am pretty good in the "silly" department) but we eventually got some great pictures of the family. OK, so we did bribe with ice cream, a sure winner with any child! Thank you Terri and Fred for your time and friendship =) - Shelby

Loch Haven Park {Orlando Family Photographer}

I am still in the middle of my tour of Orlando for the month of June...this stop was Loch Haven Park with Julie and her two beautiful boys, Bryce and Brooks (you can see where they get their good looks from =). I was so thrilled to explore this new location and so thankful to Julie for getting out of the house at 9am with two little ones! I said in my last blog that Mead Gardens was my new favorite location but I take that back now. Loch Haven Park had so many beautiful trees that created a nice canopy from the blazing sun and great for these two boys to climb when they are a little older. A Big Girl Now! {Orlando Child Photographer}

Mead Gardens

OK, so when Tina had mentioned Mead Gardens and said it was a little "slushy" and "wild", I was not sure what to expect.....I think I have now found my new favorite location. As you can see from the images below, not only did I capture a beautiful family but such beautiful colors from all the lush landscaping around us. I must also add that Tina's husband (Damon) is officially my most involved "photo" dad! He was so helpful in suggesting different spots and poses and what he thought might look good. New Smyrna Beach

I also included a current portrait of my sis and her family (husband-Kevin and babies-Parker & Poogan) that I snapped before they move to the Big City (NYC) in just a month or so. I will miss her so much but look forward to hearing about all the cool shoes she buys. Lastly I could not forget "Speckles" who was the happiest duck on earth with the huge pieces of bread Ella and Oliver kept feeding it. This is the resident duck who lives in the lake by my parents' house. Thank you mom and dad for hosting such a nice weekend!

New Summer Trends

I just finished shooting a few pictures for Chloe Lane's summer line of great beach gear and accessories. It was actually a mother's day treat to take my daughter and sister to the beach and get dirty in the sand. We had such a great time and left with a bucket full of seashells and lots of sand in my car! I practically had to pry the provided merchandise from my sister's hands =) Anyway, look for these pictures to be featured in an ad (for Chloe lane) in the summer addition of Playground Magazine and get on over to Chloe Lane! Thank you to Courtney, Ella, Rosie, Leigh, my son Oliver (for sleeping in the car while we did these pictures) and my mom (for staying in the car with him =). Happy Mother's Day everyone!
